Welcome to Pownal Elementary SchoolPownal is geographically located in the southwest corner of Vermont bordering Massachusetts to the south and New York to the west. It is a beautiful community with both the Taconic Mountains running through it and the Green Mountains bordering to the east. Pownal is a rural community and the gateway to Vermont. Pownal Elementary School is a kindergarten through sixth grade facility with a population that averages about 270 students. A faculty and staff of 60 serve the youngsters. Our curricula are aligned with the Vermont Common Core. Student progress is monitored through the New England Common Assessment (NECAP), Measures of Academic Progress (MAPS), local reading and math assessments, and formative assessment tools. Teachers work together to monitor and adjust instructional approaches to better fit the needs of our students. Pownal School is proud to stay current with best practices in the area of technology. In addition to a Technology Lab, our building houses individual student net books and lap tops for fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students. We also have several Smart Boards in classrooms throughout the building. The school has a colorful environment and a warm and friendly climate. As a member of the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union, Pownal students move from PES to Mount Anthony Union Middle School and then on to Mount Anthony Union High School. We have a supportive school board and SVSU administrators. The Parent Teachers Group is a very active organization working with teachers to provide resources and enriched opportunities for our children. Many volunteers (parents, Williams College students, Mount Anthony Union High School students, Career Development Center students, and community elders) offer their time to assist children in learning. Enjoy our website. It is one more way for us to communicate with parents and community! |
